A Ph.D graduate in chemistry, I first entered the intellectual property field as a patent examiner at the Australian Patent Office before moving to private practice.

I left private practice to accept an offer as the Deputy Intellectual Property Manager of Sirotech Limited, the company established as the principal commercial agent for marketing CSIRO research and technology.

After returning to private practice, I worked for prominent patent attorney firms interstate and in Queensland before establishing my own practice in 1998.
